Online Math Class
We are pleased to announce our first online math class, specifically geared towards home school students.
We will be offering an live video-based online Algebra 1 class starting in the fall of 2019 and continuing through the spring of 2020. Details can be found below in the various tabs.
In the fall of 2019 through the spring of 2020 we will be offering an Algebra 1 course. This class will be taught by Brian Twitchell. Brian has 24 years experience teaching high school mathematics, and is currently employed as a District Math Instructional Coach working with teachers from grades K – 12.
Please note that due to the online nature of this class, all students must be at least 13 years of age.

Class will be held in 1.5 hour sessions on Mondays and Thursday from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm, Eastern Time
Optional sessions will be held for additional help and support on Sunday afternoons.
Classes will begin the week of September 29 and continue through the first week of June, with scheduled times off for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, February Vacation, and April Vacation. There is also a week off in early April due to a schedule conflict.

Classes will be run through the Zoom video platform. Students will be expected to complete tasks outside of the Zoom meetings, and to be ready to participate in class and group discussions. Classes will run twice per week for 1.5 hours per session, with an optional Sunday session for additional help and support.

Students will need access to the following:
- A Google account for the sharing and receiving of Google Docs and Google Sheets
- A computer with a high speed internet connection
- Access to Zoom (www.zoom.us) including the ability to download the Zoom Desktop Client
- A web cam that interfaces with Zoom
- A printer to be able to print needed worksheets
- A scanner (preferred) or camera to be able to upload work
- A set of headphones is very helpful to reduce feedback
- A microphone connected to your computer
The following types of machines should work:
- Windows Based machine
- Mac Based machine
- Google Chromebook
- Many tablets – Android or iPad
Costs: $600.00, payable in full by September 29. Students may cancel before the beginning of the 3rd week and receive a refund, less a $50.00 registration fee. After the third week begins, no refunds will be given.
Payment plans: We do offer optional payment plans to spread the cost over 2 – 3 months.
Two Payment Plan: Payments of $325 due on September 29 and December 1.
Three Payment Plan: Payments of $225 due on September 29, November 1, and December 1.
Invoices and payments will be processed through Paypal.
Grades: Students will receive a letter grade at the conclusion of this course. Although the instructor is an experienced classroom teacher, we are NOT an accredited school, so this grade is for your own use.
Participation: Students are expected to complete assignments before class and to participate in class and group discussions. We will utilize “Breakout” rooms in Zoom which allow us to have smaller group discussions.
Philosophy: This is a Problem-Based instructional course, which means that the bulk of the learning comes through the assigned problems and discussions. Following discussion of completed problems, there will be some amount of direct instruction as needed.
