I have to say. I think I have the best job in the world!

Last week I was working with a first grade teacher on measurement. The standard says to have students measure in non-standard units, such as paperclips, counters, or other objects.

So we decided to measure the classroom in “Twitchells”. Here I am, lying on the floor with my feet at one end of the classroom.

We had to mark where my head is, so students marked the floor with a piece of tape. “Ouch! Watch out for the hair!”

I, of course, needed help getting off the floor….

And, we couldn’t quite fit a whole number of Twitchells – it was three and a half Twitchells wide.

The highlight of the activity? When I got ready to leave and one of the first grade girls said “Mr. Twitchell – when I grow up I want to be just like you!”
